Hochelaga-Maisonneuve was Canada's fifth largest city before it was annexed to Montréal in 1918. This district has numerous Beaux-Arts style buildings of outstanding quality, old reconverted factories and imposing churches. Just 15 minutes away from downtown by subway or car, its typical streets, its two commercial arteries jam-packed with popular little restaurants, its public market and the warm hospitality of its bed & breakfasts make it a choice destination.

A walking tour of the district should include the Maisonneuve Market. Other notable buildings include the magnificent public baths on Morgan Avenue and the Denise-Pelletier Theatre.

This condo is located in the historic and very quiet Maisonneuve area, a post-industrial working class district where, unlike downtown Montreal or the old city area, it's still possible to find many people who speak very little English. This makes it a real challenge for those of us who have been slacking off with our French studies.
